Chuma Edoga, USC

What’s Good: Athleticism, Hips, Strength, Technique

What Ain’t Good: Character, Reaction Time, Size

Edoga has raised his draft stock quite significantly since the Senior Bowl in January. He impressed with his blocking ability and outright dominance on other defensive ends. He is built well and unlike some other tackles in this draft, he is actually a consistent blocker.

Something attached to Edoga’s name has been his character. Swinging hands at a Utah State player back in 2016 led to an ejection and soon the idea that he’s a bit of a character. Upon self-reflection, he believes he’s become more mature. Teams definitely would’ve inquired about his character at the combine.

As a prospect, he plays the pass and run well. He’s really light on his fit and doesn’t compromise strength for quicker lateral movement. He’s simply a lighter prospect. (He’s only 6’3″ and 308 pounds) The expectation would be he puts on weight, but in doing so, he doesn’t lose the athleticism he has now.

Edoga also demonstrates pretty consistent technique. His hand placement is generally good and he has the ability to throw people away from him. However, the biggest noticeable concern in his film is his inconsistent reaction time. He doesn’t always get off the line correctly causing him to be one step behind the defensive end. However, he made it up in the past with his athleticism.

If he slips up at the next level, would his athleticism save him then?
