S Malik Gant

Marshall

6’2” 194lbs

Note: As mentioned before, we traded the Dallas Cowboys first fourth round pick in order to move up to select Kahale Warring in round three. As such, pick 136 is our only pick in the fourth round.

Malik Gant is a both a ferocious and reliable hitter (two often exclusive traits). He’s a perfect in-the-box safety at the NFL level with ability to play in 2-deep zone and inside in man coverage. Think of Darnell Savage Lite.

Gant reads and reacts without hesitation and closes distances much faster than his clocked speed (4.63) would otherwise indicate.  He has the size and length that make him a good fit on the Dallas Cowboys defense and while he doesn’t project well as a centerfield safety, he has plenty of experience doing it (doesn’t really give up big plays or make big plays as a deep safety).

As one of the best in-the-box safeties in this class, Gant would be a great SS on the Cowboys with ability to play special teams and blitz off the edge.

Gant has a strong work ethic illustrated by earning a scholarship after walking on at Marshall.  If the Dallas Cowboys pass over a safety on Day 2, Gant is one of the best remaining options left on the board. He’d be a Day 1 asset with starter potential. A wonderful fit alongside Xavier Woods who’s expected to break out as a possible Pro Bowl free safety in 2019.

With the 165th pick the Dallas Cowboys select…
