Round 4 – Mike Weber – Running Back – Ohio State

This is about the point in the draft it gets difficult to predict. I think the Cowboys will draft a running back, as they need some depth there, but defensive tackle and offensive line depth should not be out of the question here. Daylon Mack, Ben Powers, and T.J Edwards are all possible picks here. Weber kept popping up at the top of the board.

Kyle Crabbs said of Weber, “Mike Weber projects as a rotational back at the NFL level. Weber’s controlled patience makes sense in an inside zone.” This sounds like the perfect compliment to Ezekiel Elliott, oh and of course they know each other. Weber is a really good receiver out of the backfield and has fantastic balance. He won’t be a home-run threat type of guy, but he is smart, has good vision, and can break tackles well enough.

The downside to Weber is after his hamstring issue in 2017, he hasn’t seemed like the breakout star he could have been. He won’t wow you in pass protection, even though he is willing. I wouldn’t expect Weber to break off a 80 yard touchdown, but as part of a rotation will look better as the game wears on and teams wear down. He would be a solid addition to the backfield and should be an upgrade in the run game over the departed Rod Smith.
