With two more Thursdays until the 2019 NFL Draft, I will be continuing my 10 prospects series for the Dallas Cowboys. Today, we return to the offensive side of the ball as we will be assessing 10 tight ends for the Dallas Cowboys.

At one point this off-season, Cowboys fans everywhere were set on the Cowboys using the first pick on a tight end. Jason Witten returns to the Cowboys, the tight ends at the combine end up with some really odd numbers, and now rarely does one find it such a pressing issue that the tight end position, a position that naturally falls come draft day, is one that must be addressed immediately.

Nevertheless, I’m here to remind everyone that drafting another tight end will only help the Cowboys. While the Cowboys have 3 tight ends as it is, one is a really seasoned veteran compared to the others who are in their 2nd and 3rd season. The seasoned veteran may retire again come next January and then the Cowboys will be back to 2 tight ends.

In addition, the Cowboys carried 4 tight ends on the active 53 last season so history should definitely repeat itself.

Unfortunately for the position, the natural demand for them on draft day isn’t very high. It is also a position that has a significant learning curve from college to the NFL.  However, this is beneficial for the Cowboys because the plan is to select one later with the hopes he can develop with a year behind the veterans.

Whether we choose to believe it or not, tight ends drafted earlier aren’t guaranteed greater success than those draft later, hence there was never a need to place so much emphasis on drafting one high in the first place. (Yet I still mocked Isaac Nauta in the 2nd round and look how that ended up for me…)

For that reason along with the Cowboys depth, I am writing this article with the expectation that most of these tight ends will end up on Day 3. In a class filled with valuable depth, the Cowboys have definitely done their homework visiting with Drew Sample, Jace Sternberger, and Dawson Knox coming to the Star as 30 visits according to Bobby Belt.

They’ve also met with T.J. Hockensen and Dax Raymond at the Scouting Combine.

The Cowboys understand they have a hole at tight end that needs to be filled up. Fortunately, they don’t have to use a more valuable asset to do so. Let’s dive right into 10 tight ends for the Cowboys.
