The Dallas Cowboys have to pay Dak Prescott in the final year of his rookie contract, but can the Dallas Cowboys and Dak find a happy medium?

The Dallas Cowboys are in one of the best positions a franchise can be in. It has a loaded roster full of talented players, and the Cowboys are drafting really good players on a yearly basis.

By the Cowboys finding success in the draft, its been Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones goal to re-sign their own players to mega contracts instead of regular free agents. When it comes to signing free agents from other teams, Dallas likes to sign productive players at bargain base prices.

This approach has worked so far this offseason with Dallas signing free agents Randall Cobb (wr), George Ilkoa (S), Robert Quinn (DE), and Christian Covington (DT) during free agency.

Stephen refuses to spend big time money on players like All Pro Safety Earl Thomas-who signed a four-year $55 million deal to play with the Baltimore Ravens ($32 million in full guarantees).

But like I said earlier Stephen will spend handsomely on his own Pro Bowl players like Demarcus Lawrence. Big Tank inked  a contract for $105 million over five years with a whooping $65 million in guaranteed for three years. Absolutely Awesome! My goodness!

That’s good news for the former 2014 second rounder out of Boise State. But what about Dak Prescott?

You know the fourth round quarterback out of Mississippi State that was seen as nothing more than a reclamation project at best.

Now that Dallas has signed Big Tank to the richest contract in franchise history, the next question is this: Will Dak Prescott take less money when its time to negotiate his contract?

Dak is playing in the final year of his four-year rookie deal. Right now Dak is expected to make $2,120,828 this season.

After winning 33 games, two NFC East crowns, ROY honors (Rookie of the Year), winning a playoff game, and making the Pro Bowl, Dak wants to get paid! And he’s not accepting any wooden nickles. He wants coins-like at least $21 million coins as a starting point.

When a reporter asked Dak if he would take a hometown discount like New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Dak made his intentions very clear.

"“No other quarterbacks’s wife makes as much as Brady’s does either,” stated Prescott. According to USA Today, Prescott said that Brady can accept lesser contracts because he doesn’t have to the “breadwinner in the home.”"

Translation. Dak expects to be paid like a franchise quarterback and not like a slacker or backup quarterback. Paying Dak $2 million dollars for all he’s done for Dallas in three short years is beyond a steal.

Why critics and fans alike believe Dak should take a hometown discount is beyond wishful thinking to say the least. Dak has earned his contract with hard work, dedication, moxie, leadership, and the most important stat of all, WINS!

Dak balled out his rookie year with a franchise record of 11 consecutive wins, followed by 9 wins in his sophomore season (without Ezekiel Elliott for six games), and fought back from a 3-5 start to finish the 2018 season 10-6, win the NFC East and a home playoff game since 2014.

Several NFL quarterbacks are getting paid millions on top of millions and don’t have the impressive resume like Dak, and some of them are just plain awful (NY Giants QB).

Kirk Cousins ($84 and no confidence), Ryan Tannehill (inconsistently bad), Cam Newton, Andy Dalton, Matthew Stafford, Eli Manning, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Derek Carr, Joe Flacco, Case KeenumAlex Smith, Blake Bortles, Mitchell Trubisky, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, Sam Darnold, and Lamar Jackson are the second and third tier quarterbacks in the NFL. That’s the level Dak currently sits.

Although some of the aforementioned signal callers have either won a Super Bowl or played in one, none them have done anything lately, and none of them are in position to do anything of significance in the near future.

Why Dallas should re-sign Dak ASAP for as long as possible. light. Related Story

Dak is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball and is winning despite lackluster coaching from Jason Garrett. That says a lot about him.

dark. Next. Draft: Are the Dallas Cowboys full at the WR position?

I know Dak has his own flaws to work out as a quarterback- like his accuracy and footwork, but Dak has proven to be a winner and wants to be paid like one. So my question is will Dak take less money?
