Dallas Cowboys Draft: 5 players worth trading up for
By Reid Hanson
Chase Winovich
The pass-rusher itch was scratched when the Dallas Cowboys signed DeMarcus Lawrence long-term and traded for Robert Quinn. Even with Randy Gregory possibly missing time to suspension (many of us are hopeful he’ll be back), the Cowboys are pretty solid in the defensive end department.
But since you can never have enough pass-rushers, moving up for the right one always makes sense for a team. Additionally, Quinn is playing on a one-year deal and Gregory’s sorted history indicates he should never be relied on when roster-building. So it’s very possible, maybe even likely, Dallas will be looking for a starting RDE 11-months from now.
Winovich could be that man.
Sport DFW draft guru, Adithya Prabakaran, broke down the top pass-rushers a couple weeks ago. He also gauged their fit on the Dallas Cowboys’ defense. Winovich would fit perfectly as that high-octane weakside pass rusher.
Hakeem Butler, WR
The reasons to move up for someone like Hakeem are all listed above in the Deebo Samuel slide. The reason I’m not dedicating more time to Hakeem is because I believe he’ll be long gone. Yet, I’ve seen enough draft prognosticators rank him low that I decided I should entertain the idea of such a talent falling to within Dallas’ reach in the 40-50 range.
As you can see in the spider graph above, Butler brings with him some insane measurable. He’s a mismatch nightmare for opponents and has the skills to be a top-end WR1 in this league. Again, I’m not sure why some scouts are so down on him. Even if he proves to be a one-trick-pony, he’ll be a dominant one-trick-pony making him well worth it.
