Link to Dallas: 30-visitor and combine meeting

Jace Sternberger has been one of the lesser discussed tight ends these days largely because he’s been expected to be picked in between Dallas’ first two picks. But as his fellow tight ends have been posting jaw-dropping workout numbers, he’s quietly been falling on draft boards.

Sternberger tested in the below average percentile in most categories. While his film was fantastic, some are starting to wonder whether or not it will translate to the NFL when he’s facing considerably better athletes every snap.

Gil Bryandt has Jace all the way down to No. 85 on his big board. Dane just dropped him to the late 90’s on his. ESPN’s Jeff Legwold has him at spot 87 on his big board. And NBC Sports has him off their top-100 list altogether.

It stands to reason he’ll drop even further given the depth of this tight end class. Teams know they can find a tight end anywhere in the draft and may be hesitant to use a top-100 pick on a player with below-average measurables.

Like Rapp in Round 2, what seemed impossible yesterday appears entirely possible today. The Dallas Cowboys could very well find themselves within striking distance of Jace in the third round and may be willing to move up slightly to get their guy (or just stand pat).

Jace fits what the Dallas Cowboys are looking for in a tight end. He’s a finished version of Blake Jarwin who thrives on seam routes and in the red zone. He’s not exactly the well-rounded tight end that Jason Witten has been, but he’s a proven playmaker who thrives in areas Dallas struggled with last season (the aforementioned seam and red zone areas).

If you trust the tape you love Jace Sternberger and you love the idea of adding him to this Dallas Cowboys offense.
