Pick No. 90:

Trysten Hill, Defensive Tackle, UCF

Come Friday, I am certain Hill will end up with the Cowboys. If the Cowboys can’t find the safety at 58, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if they chose Hill at that spot. In this scenario, they were able to land Thornhill so Hill shall be selected a round later.

I’ve written about Hill previously and I liked his raw athleticism. He had some issues with coaches but it’s hard to not love what you see on tape. It seems the Cowboys feel the same way, which is probably why they brought him in for a visit. I had a 4th round grade on Hill but if he is available for the Cowboys at pick number 90, I wouldn’t have an issue with this pick.

It’s no secret the Cowboys have had an issue finding a defensive tackle for some time. Maliek Collins has been good but oft-injured. Antwaun Woods had a good season this year but we’ll have to wait a little longer to see if he’s a long term asset to this team. Tyrone Crawford could make the transition back to 3-technique especially with the acquisition of Robert Quinn. Kerry Hyder was also signed this offseason but we don’t know how he will fit into this team’s rotation.

This is where Hill would make a major impact for the Cowboys. The biggest issues with Hill were his pad height and technique; both of these are fixable. What you can’t teach is his athleticism, motor, and strength. Come the end of the third round, it makes sense to go grab high upside guys with the hope you can coach them into productive football players. Hill is that guy.

As I mentioned, if the Cowboys can’t find their safety Hill could be the pick at 58. Hill at 58 would be a tough pill to swallow, but he would probably be the best player available excluding some running backs. Hill just seems destined to play with a Star on his helmet.
