Dallas Cowboys Complete Mock Draft (Adithya Final)
Pick No. 241:
Chris Westry, Cornerback, Kentucky
With the last pick for the Cowboys, I’m giving Kris Richard a tool to use so he can get working on Dallas’s version of the Legion of Boom. Earlier in the draft, we had the opportunity to select JoeJuan Williams or Isaiah Johnson. However, Thornhill’s availability made the selection for us.
Now in the seventh round we’re visiting a corner that hails from Lexington, Kentucky. Westry wasn’t used much in his time with the Wildcats partly because he was the least technically sound cornerback amongst the likes of Lonnie Johnson and Derrick Baity. (If you’re less technically sound than both these guys that’s a problem)
However, Westry turned some heads at his pro day by running a 4.31 40 yard dash and jumping 38″ vertically with a 6’4″ 188 pound frame. These impressive measurements propelled him from a nobody to a somebody. A somebody that got to visit the Star along with 29 other prospects.
Westry is going to need some serious development if he can do anything more than play special teams but I have a hard time believing a team would draft a corner with his athleticism and frame just to have him play on special teams. It just doesn’t make much sense.
There are tools to work with and if he landed on the right team, he’d make everyone else look foolish. The Cowboys could be that team. In the words of Lance Zierlein, “Westry is a high-ceiling, low-floor prospect.” These aren’t great words, but what else are you expecting from a 7th round pick?
This is my final mock draft and with two more days until the Cowboys pick, fans paying attention to the draft will hopefully come away feeling good about who the Cowboys picked especially without having a first round pick at their disposal. Here’s to hoping this draft is as good as some in the recent past.
