Derrick Puni – Offensive Tackle – University of Central Missouri

Puni was certainly someone I did not have on my radar, but is a typical Dallas Cowboys pickup after the draft. Puni has some physical traits to love, but will have a long road to make it on the main roster. At UCM Puni looked like a man among boys with his size, but I am not sure how that will translate in the NFL when he’s facing his athletic superiors play after play. .

Watching what I could on Puni, he plays with a lot of nasty to him. He is always looking to hit someone and punish them. He stays with blocks and always tries to take his man – not only out of the play – but pancake him every chance he gets. He has a surprising and powerful punch which rocks defensive linemen consistently. This is a guy Marc Colombo is going to like working with.

Puni’s footwork is a little sloppy and sometimes will grab if he feels his man is getting away from him. He doesn’t have a lot of bend to him to get under pads and has relied on his strength a lot up to this point. He has some tools and size, but will need work.
