Dallas Cowboys: Undrafted Free Agents, Who Are They?
Daniel Wise – Defensive Tackle – Kansas
If you followed my mock drafts leading up to the actual draft, Wise is a name that would occasionally pop up in the fourth or fifth rounds. Most of the pre-draft analysis I saw had him at the very least a day three type of guy. However, he went undrafted due to what I think was Kansas not playing him properly. His production just wasn’t there, then the Shrine Game happened, and it was really good, but apparently not enough.
Wise was asked to do a lot of two gap, five technique defensive tackle (A 5 technique is a defensive lineman who typically lines up on the outside shoulder of the offensive tackle). Wise is more of a three technique, as he does his best work rushing inside. Watching him in the Shrine Game, he is disruptive and has a relentless motor. Basically, a Rod Marinelli prototypical defensive lineman.
Wise, doesn’t have a ton of bend to change of direction to him, and he can get pushed around in the run game. He will do his best work on passing situations where he can use his first step and motor to get into the backfield. Easily one of the best undrafted free agents, and the Dallas Cowboys may have found a solid rotational guy.
