Ricky Walker – Defensive Tackle – Virginia Tech

Another player who I had as a late round selection by the Cowboys in previous mock drafts, Ricky Walker makes it as an undrafted free agent instead. I believe I had him as a round seven pickup, so seeing him land here after the draft isn’t a huge surprise. He has some issues as a player, but is a solid Rod Marinelli pickup.

Watching Walker play, he makes flashy plays here and there and has the motor and speed that Marinelli loves in his defensive line. His best traits as his first step, hand usage, and footwork. All things that helped him overcome his length issues at Virginia Tech. He can make plays, but will have some work to be a solid contributor in the NFL.

Walker gets washed out by bigger, stronger linemen which could hurt in the NFL. He will need to rely even more on his quickness, because he will not win using strength alone. If he can learn to evolve these skills he could be part of a rotation along the line, but could be a liability in the run defense, and there isn’t a ton he can do to fix that.
