Every off-season is a time for speculation, hypothetical situations, and renewed faith that our favorite sports teams will be contending for a championship in the following season. In the Jason Garrett era trends have dictated Dallas Cowboys seasons, so today we’ll see which ones could be at play this season.

If there’s one thing that’s been consistent throughout the Jason Garrett era, it’s a lack of consistency from year to year. Ever since the days of coaching three consecutive 8-8 teams, the Cowboys have had no consistency in the last 5 years. One year they make the playoffs, the next year they lose their quarterback. The sequence continues in a similar order.

Trends can be really random and happenstance, but in football, some are also calculated. The Cowboys love to run the ball so it should come as no surprise that they do well when they can play typical smash mouth football.

Trends like these carry some actual value. Most other trends are nothing more than little superstitions. These superstitions are mostly random and carry little to no weight in regards to how the team operates. However, they are still fun to tally and record as hopefully one day fans can look at a list of trends with the hopes they can configure their perfect season.

Today, I want to have some fun trying to predict the Cowboys upcoming season while trying to play the game of trends. I will lay out several trends that dictate the Cowboys season and measure how likely such trend is likely to occur in the upcoming season.
