It’s draft day so we’re summing up the last few weeks of our draft coverage here at Sport DFW and delivering you all the goods on the Dallas Mavericks

It’s time for the NBA Draft which means it’s time for NBA teams like the Dallas Mavericks to roll the dice on their future. As we all know, Dallas is without their first round pick. That was shipped off to Atlanta in the Luka Doncic trade from last year.

As such, the Mavs will not be picking until the top of the second round. When Dallas goes on the clock at Pick 37, they should have a handful of attractive players to select from.

While getting a future starter outside of the lottery is against the odds, it’s not impossible. In fact, there are a handful of high ceiling players who could slip into the second round.

Just a couple days ago, we looked at some potential second round steals who may be there for the taking. All of the players we highlighted come with significant risk. Either with their health, their behavior, or their time away. But all have extremely high ceilings for someone potentially picked in the back half of the draft.

But maybe the Mavs don’t go big and prefer to play it a little safer. Sport DFW’s Dallas Mavericks contributor, David Lynch jumped into the safe picks as well as the home runs when he detailed seven specific players all MFFL should be paying attention to this evening.

Among the seven players profiled, he addressed multiple positions and multiple directions the franchise could be going this summer. It’s a must read prior to the NBA Draft

If the Mavs want to trade back in the draft in order to acquire more picks down the line, there should be a handful of players available to them. The deeper they move back, the longer the odds of said players, but if Dallas wants to draft and stash, or take the time to develop them themselves, it may pay off in the end.

Early in the draft process we looked at some centers specifically who could be second round options for the Dallas Mavericks. If the Mavs want to move towards a committee approach at the five, this may be the way to go.

Cody Smith recently dove into the rarely discussed DFW Sports Curse earlier in the month. He pointed out the misfortune that has come upon the metroplex ever since the Dallas Mavericks blew up their Championship team.

How bad has the curse been? Which franchise has it hurt the most. He looks at all of that and more…
