The preseason is the time for talent evaluation. For a team with a lack of clarity on their wide receiver depth chart, the Dallas Cowboys have been paying special attention to their young receiving group. After two preseason games and many training camp practices, which receivers will make the final depth chart?

Earlier this offseason I assessed the wide receiver room and made predictions on who I thought would make the final roster. This was well before training camp had started, any preseason games had been played, and before injuries were an issue. Now that all these things have transpired, the original prediction seems a bit… bad.

In the early weeks of training camp, the biggest news about the offense was Kellen Moore‘s use of pre-snap motion and misdirection. Along with that, the Dallas Cowboys were asking quarterback Dak Prescott to throw the ball deep. A lot.

Because of that, the faster players were making a name for themselves. Jon’Vea Johnson, Reggie Davis, Tavon Austin, and even Jalen Guyton were popular names as the Cowboys headed to Santa Clara. After this game, the names appearing on the highlight reel started to change.

The Devin Smith‘s and Cedric Wilson’s of the world were the players making moves. During the preseason games, Johnson, Guyton, and Davis were getting the snaps but weren’t making the most of them. The receiving room has found themselves in a deadlock with little separation.

So that means it’s the perfect time to make another prediction as the Cowboys only have a few weeks to make their final roster cuts. With Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and Randall Cobb solidified as the top three receivers who will make the final cuts?
