Stock Down: The ST Unit

(3). Brett Maher, Chris Jones, L.P. Ladouceur

It normally seems good when your special teams unit looks like the team’s weakest link, but I highly doubt Front Offices agree.

Chicago Bears, anyone?

Despite Stephen Jones insisting the Cowboys have all the confidence in the world in Brett Maher, reports out of training camp and preseason seem to indicate otherwise. Going 5-7 in the preseason coupled with some Oxnard inconsistencies from the right hash have many questioning the validity of Maher as Big D’s primary kicker.

Thankfully, Maher seems to be the only question mark on the ST unit. Long snapper L.P. Ladouceur is a good bet to build upon his 14-year reign of perfection. The Fear-Mongering Chris Jones looks set up for another season of upper-echelon punting. The rest of the unit figures to not miss a beat.

This isn’t to say we should sound the alarm bells on Brett Maher yet, but some inconsistent kicking in camp definitely raises concerns. There will be more exciting positions to watch, but there’s enough reason to keep an eye out for the ST unit.
