TCU Football: Is TCU Back?
By Cody Smith
After some growing pains by TCU’s offense for most of the season, true freshman Max Duggan broke out in a major way for TCU Football against Texas, as the Horned Frogs won their 6th in last 7 tries against the Longhorns.
Since TCU Football had the amazing comeback in the 2017 Alamo Bowl, it has been rough two years for the football team, as they were a combined 10-9 since the Alamo Bowl victory. Fast forward to Saturday night, and suddenly TCU Football is inching back onto the map again after a huge win against #15 Texas.
The win for the Horned Frogs surprised many, given the team’s offensive struggles over the past year-and-a-half, but should it really have been that much of a surprise? After all, since joining the Big 12 during the summer of 2012, Gary Patterson’s team’s have gone 6-2 against the Longhorns including wins of 6 of their last 7 meetings.

Now that the Horned Frogs are 4-3, they are now back in an uphill battle in the race for the opportunity to play in the Big 12 Championship, and would need some help in the form of Iowa St. and Kansas St. losses, and winning the remaining of their conference games (@Oklahoma St., vs Baylor, @Texas Tech, @ Oklahoma, and vs. Western Virginia). Iowa St. and Kansas St. losing would give them one more conference loss than the Horned Frogs, and a win in Norman would give the Frogs the tie breaker against the Sooners, putting them in the Big 12 Championship (against Baylor?).
If TCU finds a way to put it together, and win out, this could potentially be one of the best coaching jobs by Gary Patterson in his astounding career at TCU, given the way the team was being looked at after falling to 3-3.
Beating Texas means a lot to TCU Football, as now the team is going to have momentum as they head to Stillwater to fight the Oklahoma State Cowboys next Saturday, as they try to correct a season that was plummeting towards disaster with hope for the future.
Speaking of the future – true freshman Quarterback, Max Duggan, looked nothing like a true freshman against the Longhorns, as he made some big runs and threw some terrific passes to ice the game late, including rushing in the touchdown that gave the Horned Frogs the 10 point lead that they would hold on to for the rest of the game.

The way Duggan played, with such poise, should be extremely promising for TCU Football fans. I am uncertain if TCU Football may or may not be back on a national stage, but I am certain that they have found their Quarterback that is going to lead them back to where they want to be for the next three and a half years.
