The Dallas Cowboys are playing the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. A win for the Cowboys will give them the undisputed lead of the NFC East and a necessary win as they approach the tougher part of their schedule.

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off of an eventful bye week. They traded a conditional late round pick for defensive end Michael Bennett and were fairly close to completing another transaction for Jets safety Jamal Adams. Any improvement is welcome to a Cowboys team currently 4-3 and atop the NFC East.

Their next challenge presents itself in the form of division rival New York Giants. The Giants have won two games since their last meeting with the Cowboys. However, in that span Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has turned the ball over the most out of anyone in the league and the Giants defense has allowed 31 points per game over their last three contests.

The Cowboys are coming off of a bye week. The last game they played they demolished the Eagles on Sunday night. That win spoke volumes about how well the team could play at their best. It also gave optimism that the Cowboys could make the playoffs once again.

This Cowboys team was touted as one of the most talented teams in the last decade with the abundance of offensive and defensive talent as well as more modern play callers on offense and defense. The Philadelphia game was the first game all season where things clicked for both sides.

After two weeks of rest, the Cowboys will have the opportunity to find consistency on both sides of the field against a rookie quarterback and a bad defense. If the Cowboys can win by dominating both sides of the ball, it should give the Cowboys the optimism that they can play their brand of football against a tougher opponent.

But wasn’t that already disproved earlier in the season when the Cowboys lost to the New Orleans Saints?

Yes, however, every week presents new challenges as well as new opportunity. If the Cowboys have the right game plan on both sides of the ball, it means they’ve understood how to manage their talent while also understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the team.

Of course, the obvious issue here is the Cowboys staff have not shown the ability to adapt to change and adversity as well as we’ve hoped. However, it is worth considering the situation the Cowboys are currently in.

More from Dallas Cowboys

They are currently one game over .500 and have yet to play the hardest part of their schedule. The teams that they will be playing, like the Patriots, Bills, Vikings, and Lions can create problems for the Cowboys if they don’t adapt quickly enough. How they choose to attack this weeks game can affect how they view each individual matchup going forward. How they attack each week can decide whether this team is playoff bound.

A big win against the Giants will give the team the confidence that they can compete against the best. A close win against the Giants will look good on the record books and could be huge for playoff seeding but the doubts of this team will continue to resurface. A loss against the Giants and everyone will be asking for coaches to be fired on Tuesday

.While the NFL is a week to week business, the best teams can consistently be good for several weeks in a season. However, the challenge that exists with every team is they all have to beat teams with talented individuals, so the team that prepares better will always win.
