The Dallas Cowboys will win the NFC East the hard way
By Dink Kearney
The Dallas Cowboys are 6-4 and are about to play two tough opponents in a four day span, but this two game stretch can be a major turning point.
As you already know, the Dallas Cowboys don’t make anything easy. I mean absolutely nothing! I have mentioned plenty of times how the Cowboys have more drama than the hit reality show aptly titled “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” (KUWTK).
Anything Cowboys related will have a seed of drama to it, just waiting to spring out like a jack-in-the-box and scare the living hell of Cowboys Nation.
This past summer All Pro running back and two-time NFL rushing champ Ezekiel Elliott held Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones hostage for a hefty contract extension while he trained on sand in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico as he sought -and received- a massive $90 million extension over eight years with $50 million guaranteed.
Cowboys Nation collectively held their breath as Zeke threatening to hold out until his contract demands was met. Because we all knew the importance of having Zeke to win a Super Bowl.
Fast forward two months into the season with one of the most talented rosters in the NFL, and the Cowboys are keeping the drama going with a disappointing 6-4 record-when Dallas is supposed to be undefeated at best and 9-1 at worse.
If Dallas’ defense couldn’t stop Driskel and Sam Darnold, then you know Brady and Josh Allen are going to have good games. So it will be up to Dallas’ offense and NFL passing leader Dak Prescott to carry the team and win these all important games.
However, the drama this team created with unaccecptable losses will have them working extra hard to not only win upcoming games, but to win that coveted NFC East crown.
Oh yeah, the “Boys” played down to their competition and lost easy games (New York Jets) and winnable games (New Orleans Saints and no Drew Bress, Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers without key players).
Those losses might come back to haunt them if they don’t take care of business against their next two opponents-the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills. The Pats and Bills have so much to play for. The 9-1 Pats want to be a number one seed, and the 7-3 Bills just want to make the playoffs as a Wild Card team.
But if the Pats don’t pick up their play, the Bills could catch them and win the AFC East division. Now you see why both teams have something of importance to play for.
When you combine Dallas’ own must- win agenda to the equation, you understand why this two game stretch is so important for Dallas to win the NFC East-which will work in their favor if they can beat the Pats and Bills.
If you’re watching the Philadelphia Eagles schedule (and you are), you want those buzzards to keep losing, especially this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. See if the Eagles lose to the Seahawks and Dallas can miraculously beat the Pats and Bills in a four day span, Dallas would have 3- game lead on the Eagles and increasing their chances of winning their second consecutive division title and fourth in six years.
If Dallas is 8-4 and the Eagles are 5-6, Dallas will control their own destiny. And even if Dallas can win at least one of those games against the Pats or Bills and Philly still loses, Dallas still has a two game lead over their divisional rival.
That would be an idea scenario for Dallas to beat the Pats in Foxborough and handle the Bills on Thanksgiving Day, but its going to be tough because Dallas’ defense is playing awful now and making backup and second year quarterbacks look like Hall of Famers.
Dallas’ defense allowed Detroit Lions backup quarterback Jeff Driskel to play like an All Pro. Driskel ran for a touchdown and threw a few bombs down the field against Dallas’ porous defense. Driskel had plenty of time to sit in the pocket and throw dimes.
What do you think future Hall of Famer Tom Brady is going to do to Dallas’ defense? And Brady is pissed because of the Pats offensive woes. Brady is going to take his anger out on Dallas’ defense.
If Dallas’ defense couldn’t stop Driskel and Sam Darnold, then you know Brady and Josh Allen are going to have good games. So it will be up to Dallas’ offense and NFL passing leader Dak Prescott to carry the team and win these all important games.
Dak will have to throw the ball almost 50 times to beat the Pats because the Pats will definitely focus on stopping Zeke, and the Pats have the number one defense. That game will be tough on an entirely different level.
The Bills will be a tough out because it ranks third in the league in points allowed and have a really good defense that has tallied 29 sacks.

Even if Dallas were to beat the Pats and Bills, they still have a tougher remaining schedule than the Eagles because they still have to play the Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, Eagles and Skins.
Whereas the Eagles have the easier schedule with remaining games against the Seahawks, Miami Dolphins, twice against the New York Giants, Washington Redskins, and of course against Dallas. If Dallas can beat the Pats and Bills, they position themselves to win their division and gain momentum to win the rest of their games.
The wild card is Coach Clapper, Jason Garrett. Nobody expects him to out coach Bill Belichick, but maybe Coach Clapper can give one hell of a motivational speech to rally his team to victory.
And ladies and gentlemen, that’s why the Dallas Cowboys will have to win the NFC East the hard way.
