The Dallas Cowboys ended their three-game losing streak with a win over the Los Angeles Rams, and they discovered a blueprint to win more games.

In typical Dallas Cowboys fashion, the inconsistent Cowboys ended its three-game winning streak with a dominating 44-21 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in a game they were supposed to lose.

The Cowboys had been the favorites in the majority of their games this season, but after enduring their second three-game losing streak of the season (including a loss to the ineffective Chicago Bears), they were truly the underdogs facing the surging Rams.

The Rams were the mirror image of the Cowboys. In that the Rams are a talented team that wasn’t playing up to its potential but suddenly found its rhythm and went on a two-game winning streak that included beating the NFC West division leader Seattle Seahawks 28-12.

It appeared the Rams would walk into At&T stadium with their two-game winning streak and whip the Dallas Cowboys like they did last season in the divisional round of the playoffs. As we know, it didn’t unfold that way because the Cowboys found an old formula to win an important football game.

That familiar formula is simple: run the football and then some. Let’s take a deeper look at this simple formula that can make Dallas a formidable foe.

If Dallas plays to its potential, this team can beat any NFC team: New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and Minnesota Vikings. Yes, Dallas has lost to three of those teams, but we all know they’re more than capable of beating them-especially the second time around.

Running the ball with Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard until nauseam

In the game against the the Rams, Dallas ran for a season high 263 yards with Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard accounting for 248 of those rushing yards. Zeke had 24 carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Pollard ran for 131 yards and a touchdown with just 12 carries.

Dallas was never that effective running the ball, even when it faced lesser competition. But with Zeke and Pollard toting the rock 34 times for almost 250 yards and three touchdowns, it proves that Dallas needs to do this to more often to win games.

Running the ball effective will set the tone for the entire game, help with TOP (time of possession), create play action pass, eventually tire out opposing defenses, and Dallas will have the opportunity to make the running game matter most late in the game.

Site expert Reid Hanson does an outstanding job explaining how this is beneficial to Dallas’ offense . See, when Dallas is running the ball effectively and scoring touchdowns in the red zone, it allows them to do whatever from an offensive standpoint.

And that’s because Dallas can play with a lead while pounding the ball down opposing defenses throats- eventually wearing them out.

The win against the Rams was a carbon copy of how Dallas won its three Super Bowls in the early 1990’s. Dallas would run the ball successfully with Emmitt Smith, score touchdowns, and let Troy Aikman pick apart secondaries throwing to Michael Irvin, Alvin Harper, and Jay Novacek.

Those Super Bowl winning teams made the running game matter because they used it as a foundation to to beat teams, and that’s what Dallas did against the Rams. Dak was still effective while passing for 212  yards and two touchdowns.

Having Dak throw for 450 yards and four touchdowns is a lofty stat, but passing for 212 yards and two touchdowns with a win is even better.

Interchanging Zeke and Pollard is the key if Dallas wants to win their last two games and make a deep playoff run. Pollard showed that he’s capable of scoring a touchdown anytime he touches the ball, and he broke out of several tackles en route to his lone 44-yard touchdown.

Pollard’s escapability is an added bonus to Dallas’ offense and a lethal combination to go with Zeke’s powerful running style. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore must find a way to have both Zeke and Pollard on the field at the same time and get Pollard more touches.

Speaking of touches, there is another player that needs more touches and involvement in the offense…

Blake Jarwin needs to start or get snaps

Blake Jarwin can play. He can catch. Run. Is athletic. And he scores touchdowns. Jarwin needs to start like yesterday. Jarwin is Dallas’ best tight end and he can beat anything linebacker and safety in man coverage.

Against the Rams, Jarwin had two receptions for 40 yards, and Jarwin has shown his dependability by catching key passes throughout the season. When Jarwin catches a pass, good things happen-like making a shoe-string catch to end the game against the Detroit Lions.

More from Dallas Cowboys

For the season, Jarwin has 30 receptions for 351 yards, three touchdowns, and averaging 11.7 yards a reception. Old man Jason Witten has 57 receptions for 491 yards, four touchdowns, and 8.6 yards a reception. Imagine how many more touchdowns Jarwin would have if he was a starter or just got more snaps.

Now I’m not saying bench old man Witten for Jarwin. All I’m saying is either make him a starter along side Witten or find more ways to get this man on the field. Jarwin is too good of a player to not be on the field making plays. And Jarwin is a mismatch. PERIOD!

In conclusion

Dallas is one talented team that can beat any team in the NFL on any given Sunday. Dallas proved that notion with its 44-21 drilling of the Rams. Like site expert Reid Hanson explained, Dallas needs to make its running game matter moving forward because its a successful gameplan to win games.

If Dallas plays to its potential, this team can beat any NFC team: New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and Minnesota Vikings. Yes, Dallas has lost to three of those teams, but we all know they’re more than capable of beating them-especially the second time around.

dark. Next. Dallas Cowboys Need the Running Game to Matter Down the Stretch

So if Dallas sticks to this formula, it win more games and then some.
