K.J. Hill – Wide Receiver – Ohio State

This is where the draft gets weird. There was a stack of wide receivers and defensive ends, and trying to figure out which direction to go, I went with someone to fill the Tavon Austin, Randall Cobb, and Devin Smith roles with one guy. Although depending on free agency, this could be defensive end territory.

Hill plays fast, catches the ball well, plays the slot, returns kicks, and can play outside when needed. Hill is sneaky fast and can break loose to take one to the house, but can also run to the sideline, keep his toes down, and make a catch on the sideline. Smart player who can get you the yards you need against zone, but can also stretch a defense in man. He was productive with four different quarterbacks.

Hill needs to work on his route tree. He is a fit for the slot right away, but will need to develop more to be a consistent outside threat. I am not wild about his catch radius, but as a slot guy isn’t really a serious issue. Not the best off the line in press coverage, but uses his agility well enough that he looks like he could fix it.

Other Names: Darrell Taylor, Jared Pinkney, and Gabriel Davis. Taylor is a defensive end who rushes the passer, but is a liability in the run game. Pinkney is a solid all around tight end, but again I think free agency for the Cowboys. Davis is another wide receiver with deep speed, but is not a fit in the slot at all.
