Chase Lucas – Cornerback – Arizona State

This round saw a stack of running backs and a few linebackers. I went with an underrated corner as he fills both a need and may be the best player in terms of talent available around here. The Cowboys might need help at corner and Lucas would provide value in the fourth round. Once a potential top 50-100 pick, this season did no favors for Lucas, but looking at his supporting cast, I am taking the shot on him here.

Lucas has good speed and hips to cover out of the slot at the next level pretty early. He holds up in the run game and is a solid tackler. What looked like a promising 2018 in terms of balls skills, regressed in 2019, but looking at the Sun Devils defense this year, the entire team took a step back. So I might believe it was supporting cast and scheme more than Lucas. He is also a top kick returner so his value at this point is high for both slot corner and special teams play.

Lucas will need to find the right fit at the next level, but could be an absolute steal if he returns to how he looked in 2018. He can get a little overpowered on the outside against bigger receivers, but has all the tools to be an outside corner if he can add a little to his frame.

Other Names: Jack Driscoll, Khalid Kareem, and Jordyn Brooks. Driscoll is a smart, powerful, offensive tackle, but is a little slow on the edge at time. Kareem is a defensive end who is long and strong, but is a liability in the run game. Brooks is a linebacker who is quick, but gets lost due to strength at times.
