#7-Signing Adrian Beltre (2011)

Perhaps the most significant move that the Texas Rangers made in the 2010’s was signing Adrian Beltre, a player, who was considered good for his time, but he elevated his play, and maintained a high level of play throughout his eight seasons for the Rangers, which has all but secured his spot in Cooperstown for the MLB Hall of Fame.

In 2010, the Rangers appeared in the World Series, but were simply overmatched by the San Francisco Giants in the series, as they lost 4-1. The club then lost ace pitcher that they acquired during the run to the Philadelphia Phillies via free agency, so they acquired Beltre to compensate for the loss of Cliff Lee.

At the time, Rangers fans likely would have rather kept Cliff Lee over signing Adrian Beltre in free agency, but nearly ten years later, I think that everyone would gladly admit that they are happy with the way things worked out in the end with Beltre becoming a Ranger, as the team still managed to return to the World Series with him in 2011, and then reached playoff (or a 163rd game) games four more times over the course of Adrian Beltre’s Rangers career.
