No. 1 DeMarcus Ware, DE

Dallas Cowboys: 2005-2013

DeMarcus Ware only played four seasons for the Dallas Cowboys in this past decade but what a four seasons they were. Ware racked up 15.5 sacks and 21 tackles for loss in 2010. He had 19.5 sacks and 26 tackles for loss in 2011. And 11.5 sacks and 9 TFL in his injury-marred 2013 season that still led to a Pro Bowl invite.

Ware was the nicest guy off the field and the meanest player on the field. His explosiveness, bend, and ankle flex rounding the edge was a sight to behold. Much like teams schemed for Lawrence Taylor back in the day, opponents always focused the bulk of their attention on DeMarcus Ware.

Being the best player on an otherwise bad defense is a bad situation for most superstars. Opponents were able to sell-out and double, even triple, Ware through much of career and suffer little to no repercussions. Despite all that focus and attention he demanded, Ware always found a way to produce.

As we all know, the Cowboys were in some salary cap trouble mid-decade, and after two down seasons where he was hampered by injury, the Dallas Cowboys prematurely cut ties with the first-ballet Hall of Famer. Ware would go on to get double-digit sacks his first season in Denver, even taking home a Lombardi Trophy. The fact that most Cowboys fans celebrated his win speaks volumes to what he meant to this franchise and the fans

Ware was so good throughout his tenure in Dallas, he’s actually the best player of the 2000-2009 decade as well as the 2010-2019 decade. All hail DeMarcus Ware.
