4. 2018: 10-6, NFC East Champs, top-5 defense

This team started the season with a 3-5 record and Dak Prescott had no receiving threats. But when Dallas acquired Pro Bowl receiver Amari Cooper from the Oakland Raiders, this team went 7-1 the rest of the of the way and had a lethal offense to go with its defense.

Dallas had a top-5 defense and finally had pass rushers known as “War Daddies” that could punish opposing quarterbacks. DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory terrorized quarterbacks, while the linebacking duo of Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch were tackling machines.

With a top ranked offense and defense, Dallas was expected to at least make it to the NFC Championship and maybe play in the Super Bowl. But in the divisional round of the playoffs, the Los Angles Rams ran for 273 yards and three touchdowns on Dallas’ stout defense and won 30-22.

The Rams stopped Ezekiel Elliott and Dallas’ top-ranked defense was a shell of itself.

Expectation: Make it to the Super Bowl

Result: A disappointing team

3. 2016: 13-3, NFC East Champs, #1 seed, rookie sensations in Zeke and Dak

The expectations were low for this Dallas team because quarterback Tony Romo was on injured reserved with of an injured back, and Dak was expected to manage the team until Romo was healed.

But after Dallas’ season opening loss to the New York Giants, Dak led Dallas on an eleven-game winning streak, a 13-3 record, the number one seed in the playoffs, and this team boasted the best running back in the NFL in Zeke-who happened to  be the NFL’s leading rusher.

And Romo never got his job back.

Dak proved that he was a franchise quarterback that could lead a talented Dallas team to the Super Bowl because those were the expectations. However, that dream was short lived in the divisional round of the playoffs as the Grinch from Green threw a spectacular pass and a better catch was made by Jared Cook as  the Packers beat Dallas 34-31 in dramatic fashion in At&t stadium.

Expectation: Super Bowl winner

Result: Disappointing team
