Dallas Cowboys: Top-5 Free Agent Tight Ends to Target
By Reid Hanson
Luke Willson
Age: 30
PFF Rank: 37
Luke Willson is a name most Dallas Cowboys fans know. The Canadian tight end has been with Seattle his entire career and been a factor in every game the Cowboys have played against those sea birds. He’s a decent blocker, pass-catcher, and pass-protector but beside having great hair, he doesn’t really excel in anything.
At age 30, chances are he is what he is and his best days are behind him. Ideally, Wilson would be a nice TE2 to complement a true TE1. He’s a smart veteran option that could be had for cheap in free agency. He’s the kind of move the Dallas Cowboys usually like: someone to help fill a need but not good or costly enough to prevent the team from drafting someone early.

Pro Football Focus rated Blake Jarwin and Luke Wilson as 37th in the NFL last season (FWIW Jason Witten was 45th) and right ahead of them was MyCole Pruitt from Tennessee. Pruitt had a breakout season in 2018 but he couldn’t really build on it this year and looks destined for a reserve role.
At 6-foot-2, 245lbs, Pruitt’s an undersized player at his position. He’s never going to be a good downfield threat but his low center of gravity allow him to be a decent run-blocker and a pretty darn good pass protector. PFF rated him as the NFL’s 12th best pass protecting TE in 2019 so he has some hidden value heading into free agency.
There’s a number of different avenues the Dallas Cowboys can take this offseason as they basically rebuild the tight end position. But with Dalton Schultz still a major question, Jason Witten likely departing, and Jarwin playing his last season under contract, it’s likely Dallas will need to use both the draft AND free agency to fill their needs.
