The Dallas Cowboys are in dire need of an upgrade or two at defensive tackle so today we look to free agency and identify five veterans for them to target.

The Dallas Cowboys enter free agency with defensive tackle among one of their biggest needs. Not only did the unit severely disappoint last season, but nearly all of them are free agents. As such, the Cowboys aren’t just looking for one or two DTs to fill the interior, they’re looking for an entirely new unit.

Major Turnover

1 technique DT, Christian Covington, and 3 technique under tackle, Maliek Collins, are both unrestricted free agents. Part-time DT Michael Bennett is expected to depart, and Tyrone Crawford may be a cap casualty. The run-stopping Antwaun Woods could come back next year but he’s an exclusive rights free agent.  Even role player Daniel Ross is a restricted free agent and not expected to return.

Basically, the only DT EXPECTED to come back in 2020 is second year player Trysten Hill. But with a whopping 121 snaps to his name, he can’t be relied on for any sort of meaningful role. For the Dallas Cowboys to build a decent interior unit in 2020, they’re going to need to use both free agency and the draft.

And considering defensive tackles notoriously take time to develop, free agency will need to offer Day 1 solutions.  So today we turn our attention to defensive tackles hitting the free agent market, identifying the top-5 fits for the Dallas Cowboys
