Dallas Cowboys: 3 Low-Cost Trade Options to Explore
By Reid Hanson
Before the Dallas Cowboys explore free agency or dive into the draft, they may want to kick the tires on the trade market because a couple under-performing prospects may be just what they need.
The Dallas Cowboys have a lot to do. Virtually half of their starting roster is unsigned meaning they will need to be abnormally active this offseason if they want to improve their roster for next season. We can (have and will) argue on who should be re-signed and for how much. And we’re sure to spend countless hours and days exploring the draft all of its glorious possibilities. But today let’s look at a third avenue of roster improvement…
The Trade Market
Trades aren’t very big in the NFL. In the NBA, NHL, and MLB the trade deadline often marks the most exciting day of the sports calendar. In the NFL, the deadline offers barely a wimper. Part of that has to do with contracts, part is how players assimilate to their new teams in their respective sport, and part is just the culture that makes NFL GMs afraid to be seen as a loser.
But lately minor trades have increased in frequency. And for teams like the Dallas Cowboys who are looking for young, cheap, on-the-cusp talent to compete in 2020, trading for some young players may be wise for a team looking to compete now.
The Dallas Cowboys need players at multiple positions but today I’ve highlighted a few under-performing players at defensive tackle, receiver, and tight end who could be available for fairly cheap.
