Assessing all major needs of the Dallas Cowboys this offseason
The dust has fully settled on the 2019 NFL season, but before the clock starts on the 2020 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys have some needs to fill.
With a new coaching staff for the Dallas Cowboys (after a disappointing 2019) there will be some items the team will need to address sooner rather than later. Whether those needs are filled in free agency or in the draft, remain to be seen, however, there are certainly some positions that will be priorities. How high of a priority will be up to Mike McCarthy, the front office, and staff.
If you ask a Cowboys’ fan, analyst, media member, insider, whatever, you may get different responses to what the Cowboys highest off-season need is. We aren’t talking specifically who to sign or to release, because deciding what to do with Dak Prescott is easily the first thing to deal with. No, needs as in which positions do the Cowboys need to focus attention in free agency and the draft.
However, there is a very long list of free agents the Cowboys must decide on before they head into free agency:
Unrestricted
QB Dak Prescott
WR Tavon Austin
WR Randall Cobb
WR Amari Cooper
TE Jason Witten
C/G Joe Looney
G Xavier Su’a-Filo
DT Maliek Collins
DT Christian Covington
DL Michael Bennett
DL Kerry Hyder
DE Robert Quinn
LB Ray-Ray Armstrong
LB Sean Lee
LB Justin March-Lillard
LB Malcolm Smith
LB Joe Thomas
CB Anthony Brown
CB Byron Jones
CB C.J. Goodwin
S Jeff Heath
S Kavon Frazier
S Darian Thompson
K Kai Forbath
LS L.P. Ladouceur
Restricted Free Agent
QB Cooper Rush
TE Blake Jarwin
DL Daniel Ross
Exclusive Rights
OL Adam Redmond
DT Antwaun Woods
Club Option
FB Jamize Olawale
OT Cameron Fleming
That is a huge list and while some will get more attention and will drive much of the offseason focus, Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper, Byron Jones are widely considered the big three, as they will probably command the most money. After them there are some contributors, depth, and experience that will all be considered. Let’s assume they keep Dak for this exercise.
