Special Teams Needs for the Dallas Cowboys

Kai Forbath came in late in the season and did everything he was asked of. While the Cowboys certainly could let him walk, they will probably keep him and bring in some legs in camp. However, punter is a different story. Chris Jones is not the same punter he once was and has become a need for this team. There are a lot of ways they could go here, but punter should be addressed.

Long Snapper

Not often enough does L.P. Ladouceur get enough press. While he isn’t a young guy anymore, L.P. should be resigned as long as he doesn’t retire. However as a free agent the Cowboys could move on and find a rookie after the draft. It may not seem like a big thing, it could be bigger than many realize.

Kick Returners

This is a group that can be upgraded through other positions. However, the Cowboys certainly need help here. Adding the speed at wide receiver or corner should help with kick returns, but as the Cowboys go through free agency and the draft, if one player does returns and another doesn’t it could sway the Cowboys to lean into the kick returner direction.

Needs or Wants?

Depending on what the Cowboys do prior to and in free agency, their could be a changed list heading into the draft. There are a lot of people that say the Cowboys need a wide receiver, and while they certainly should add depth, if they keep Amari and Cobb it becomes more of a want than a need.

The next month will certainly give signs to moves the Cowboys could make in free agency. It all starts with deciding what to do with Dak Prescott. It needs to happen soon, sign him, tag him, let him walk, something, but you can’t move forward much without deciding the direction with him.

Sift through the noise when looking at what the Cowboys need or want. It is the off-season, we will hear all sorts of crazy things, some true, some not. But hopefully this will prime you on what direction they could head.
