Dallas Cowboys: 3 lower-cost options to replace Robert Quinn at DE
By Reid Hanson
Here are three budget options to replace Robert Quinn at defensive end should the Dallas Cowboys be unable to re-sign the veteran pass-rusher.
The Dallas Cowboys have a lot to do and not much time to do it. With roughly a dozen significant internal free agents about to hit the market, it’s crunch time at The Star. The Cowboys have expressed their desire to bring back 29-year-old Robert Quinn, but that doesn’t mean it’s a sure thing.
Given his age, this is likely to be Quinn’s last chance at a significant contract. Spotrac estimates that contract will be a bit over 3-years at over $11 million per season. That’s not chump change. With so many other areas in limbo, it’s unknown if the Dallas Cowboys have slotted that high of a figure to retain Quinn. And if they are expecting a discount they may be setting themselves up for disappointment.
As I discussed earlier in the week, Robert Quinn is a risky re-signing for a couple reason: 1) Age and 2) Performance history. Catch up here for the full explanation: Why re-signing Robert Quinn may be too risky for the Cowboys
So let’s say the Dallas Cowboys and free agent edge rusher Robert Quinn are unable to come to an agreement on a new deal. Quinn is looking for a final contract to retire on and Dallas is trying to fill their many roster holes with moderately priced players.
We know there’s a number of elite edge players available this year in free agency, but given the Cowboys financial situation, it’s unlikely they’ll be in the market for those market-setters. Instead, Dallas would probably be looking for bargains to fill Quinn’s vacancy.
Today we turn our attention to those bargain players and we highlight three more affordable options to Quinn at right defensive end
