Trysten Hill vs Juan Thornhill

Last year in the draft, the Dallas Cowboys committed the unforgivable sin of drafting for need rather than drafting best player available (Although reliable sources are say both players had the same grade and Dallas just values DT higher than S).

Cowboys fans know from watching the feed, Rob Marinelli and Kris Richard were in the war room on draft day, banging the table for the defensive tackle. But why did the front office listen? Teams have scouting departments for a reason and letting a coach influence a decision like this is a slap in the face to a scouting department.

In the draft community, Thornhill was universally regarded as the superior prospect, yet the Cowboys went with what their defense prefers – totally ignoring the coaching staff’s lame duck status and paying no mind to the future.

Trysten Hill went on to be a repeat inactive. He only tallied five combined tackles all season long and spent more time in the dog house than on the field. Meanwhile Thornhill went on to start in 16 games for the Super Bowl-winning Chiefs. In that time he collected 58 combined tackles, 3 interceptions (one Pick-6) and only offered a 48.4 % completion percentage when targeted through the air.

Ya think the Dallas Cowboys could use a guy like Juan Thornhill now?
