Here are three reasons the Dallas Cowboys still need to sign a veteran interior run-stopper in the worst way.

Free Agency may be slowing down but the Dallas Cowboys are far from finished shopping the market. One vital need they have yet to address is their need to add a proven run-stopper to man the middle of their defensive line. Today we look at 3 reasons why it’s so important they do…

The 1 Technique Defensive Tackle

The 1-tech DT is a position Dallas Cowboys know all too well, and for all the wrong reasons. For years, the 1-tech has been perhaps the most underappreciated position on the Dallas Cowboys defense. For a catch-up, read understanding the 1-tech.

The Marinelli philosophy towards the position asked for unheralded, low-cost, blue-collar workers to man the spot. As such, Dallas barely invested money or draft capital in the 1-tech, preferring instead to fill it with journeymen and otherwise replaceable parts.

This process has come to hurt the Dallas Cowboys over the years and with the departure of Marinelli, many in Cowboys Nation hope the front office’s handling of the position changes. There are currently a handful of viable options sitting out there in free agency.

1-techs like Dontari Poe, Damon Harrison,  Mike Pennel, and Ndamukong Suh would all greatly help the Dallas Cowboys compete next season. Why? Let’s dive into why a veteran interior run-stopper is so important to the Cowboys and why they need to address it in free agency
