Round 5 – Pick 164

Anfernee Jennings – Defensive End – Alabama

This might be a little late for a defensive end for some fans, however with the possibility of both Randy Gregory and Cameron Wake returning and Tyrone Crawford on the roster, Jennings might be a great fit for depth and insurance. Another wide receiver or corner are possibilities but Jennings was another best player available at this spot.

Jennings offers the ability to play in in a 4-3 front to rush the passer, but also plays good gap discipline. He has a quick first step and high football IQ. The downside is he isn’t going to be a stand up defender so he could be limited in what he is asked to do. But if you want someone to rush the passer the Jennings will be instantly inserted into rotation.

Jennings needs to work on some of his lateral motion as gets caught in jet plays on the outside. He is mostly a pass rusher and edge setter, but will need to do more if asked to play stand up at end. Going into a hybrid situation gives the Cowboys the ability to rotate him in to keep others fresh and they could use his ability to get to QBs.
