Round 4, Pick 123

TE, Devin Asiasi

UCLA

Another player the Dallas Cowboys have been linked to is UCLA tight end Devin Asiasi. Standing 6-foot-3 , 257 lbs, Asiasi isn’t the tradition inline tight end Jason Witten was. Nor is he a the long field stretcher Blake Jarwin is. He’s the “other” tight end and that’s what makes him such a good fit.

Devin Asiasi is well balanced TE who can block inside, run routes downfield, play like an H-back out of the backfield, and even break free with the ball in the open field. He’s a natural athlete (4 star recruit) and plays like a smaller and more athletic player. He could probably even add more weight and not lose a thing in athletic ability.

The Dallas Cowboys could obviously use him in their revamped TE group that features the unproven Blake Jarwin. The needle is high for Jarwin and like Asiasi, Jarwin can make plays in the passing game. But Jarwin leaves something to be desired on the blocking front and that’s where a well-rounded player like Asiasi makes sense. He doesn’t tip the offenses hand when he’s in the huddle and can make plays a variety of ways.

This TE class is pretty weak but Asiasi is a strong prospect any year and would provide good value here in the fourth round. TE takes time in the NFL so the Dallas Cowboys would be wise to keep investing in the position.
