Ron’Dell Carter

Edge – James Madison

Carter was a former Rutgers player who transferred to James Madison to play with his brother. Easily one of the best defensive linemen in FCS, Carter was one of those players the lack of pro-days and pre-draft visits probably hurt in the draft. He has tools to play on the next level with some technique work.

Watching Carter play, he is violent and finishes really well. He can work inside and outside on the defensive line and seems to have a good rush plan against different types of offensive linemen. He will need some refinement against double teams as he can get washed out, and sometimes pushes too far into the backfield and takes himself out of plays. He has a good first step and his feet look good in short areas.

Carter is a raw talent that will need more refinement before he becomes a contributor on the line. While he has a solid pass rush plan, he doesn’t shed blocks well if he gets chipped or double teamed. He doesn’t set the edge consistently as he looks to get upfield quickly on every play. He is a solid addition to the Dallas Cowboys defensive line rotation with some work.
