Meet the Dallas Cowboys Undrafted Free Agents of 2020
Charlie Taumoepeau
Tight End – Portland State
I liked Charlie Taumoepeau for a late round selection for the Dallas Cowboys and was mildly surprised he fell completely out of the draft. For what the NFL has become for many tight ends, Taumoepeau fits. He is a guy who can get you the underneath catches, move the sticks, but can also get open up the seam and use his strength to bully defenders.
Charlie is a guy you want in passing situations in the NFL. He has the size, hands, and body control to make catches over the middle pretty easily. While he won’t wow you with flat out speed, he punishes tacklers and smaller backs seem to bounce off of him. He isn’t the sharpest route runner, but does well on his breaks and keeps defenders off of him.
Where he will need to improve is his in-line blocking and strength at the point of attack. I wouldn’t ask him to do a ton of deep receiving routes, but let him work underneath while he figures out the route tree and works on his route running. His size should put him somewhere on the depth chart and he could find a role as well on special teams.
