Sean McKeon

Tight End – Michigan

Sean McKeon fills a specific need that happens to be lacking on the Dallas Cowboys at this time. When Jason Witten left, he vacated the all-around-TE role that he held down for roughly the past decade and a half. Replacing him was Blake Jarwin, a pass-catcher who’s best split out.

Where Jarwin, and even Taumoepeau, lacks in play, McKeon excels. More of an in-line player with better blocking skills, McKeon takes the more classic role of tight ends. He will need to work on some technique but is pretty solid as a blocker and in short yardage situations.

McKeon has good hands and works really well in the underneath and in short yardage situations. He works well in-line but sometimes has a slow step off the line. His ability to shield defenders out and catch away from his body gets him the tough yards against linebackers. He needs a little work on some blocking skills, but looks like he has the tools.

McKeon shouldn’t be asked to do too much splitting out wide as his route running and separation skills are not fully fleshed out. While he blocks well, he struggles to sustain blocks too long and isn’t ready to be a starter yet. He had a lot of contested catches which is great, but some of it was due to his route running.
