Predicting the Dallas Cowboys Final 53-man Roster in 2020 (V1.0)
By Reid Hanson
Cornerback (6)
Anthony Brown, Trevon Diggs, Daryl Worley, Jourdan Lewis, Maurice Canady, Reggie Robinson II
This is going to be fun to watch. The Dallas Cowboys want Trevon Diggs to start and he probably will. With Chido moving to a box safety/slot role (more on that here), he opens a spot at cornerback for one of the free agents. Free agent signees Daryl Worley and Maurice Canady make the cut and offer some stability to counter the growing pains of the rookies. In fact, Worley may snag that starting spot on the outside opposite Diggs.

Anthony Brown has to be the favorite to land the nickel CB role inside and once again Jourdan Lewis is relegated to spot duty. Reggie Robinson is the high-potential prospect who needs some seasoning. He’s a penalty flag waiting to happen right now and will earn most of his snaps early being a special teams ace. Saivion Smith is a great raw prospect to groom on the practice squad
Safety (5)
Xavier Woods, Chidobe Awuzie, Darian Thompson, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Donovan Wilson
The big shake up here is Chidobe Awuzie moving to box safety. As explained in the article linked above, Chido has a ton of box/slot experience and should thrive between the numbers and close to the line of scrimmage.

The Dallas Cowboys essentially replaced Jeff Heath with Clinton-Dix at safety in free agency, Ha Ha and Woods will be on the field together in the 2-high looks and quarters, while Donovan Wilson plays more “thumper” against run looks. Expect the Dallas Cowboys to use all of their safeties and deploy a few of them in blurred roles. Don’t sleep on Darien Thompson either. He may prove to be better than Clinton-Dix altogether.
Final Notes: With such young, durable, and elite players on offense, the Dallas Cowboys can go thin with their depth on that side of the ball. Defense is the big question with this team so defense is where they’ll go deeper and retain a few surprise players.
As we learn more from the Dallas Cowboys regarding schemes and position moves we’ll be updating our projections, but for now this is where we stand.
