3 Reasons the Dallas Mavericks could steal an NBA title in 2020
By Reid Hanson
The NBA season is set to restart and there’s reason to believe the Dallas Mavericks can make some noise
The NBA is back – well almost. And the Dallas Mavericks are in prime position to make a run in the post season. That’s because in this ridiculously abnormal final chapter to the season, some factors benefit the Dallas Mavericks a little more than they normally would.
Let’s start…
Why the Dallas Mavericks could steal an NBA title Reason No. 1: The Format
The Dallas Mavericks are currently in seventh place in the Western Conference Standings. Entering the postseason now would mean facing off against the Los Angeles Clippers – literally the last thing they’d want to do.
The seventh seeded Mavericks have 40 wins and the fourth seeded Jazz have 41 wins. With four teams jumbled together in the West, a lot can happen in the 8-game regular season. If the Dallas Mavericks hit the ground running, they could catapult up the standings before the playoffs. Not only would they avoid the Los Angeles teams, but they could conceivably win home court advantage.
Not that home court advantage matters in the current playoff format. Not like the Mavs shrink on the road either. In fact, other than the Lakers, the Mavs are the winningest road team in the West. That means they don’t need their friendly home court to play at peak levels. They are peak anywhere. So the idea of playing this whole thing on neutral ground means nothing to the Mavs. And losing the ability to play home games probably means a great deal to others.
All of this depends on the ability of this Dallas Mavericks team to hit the ground running on this 8-game regular season. Which brings us to reason No. 2 of why the Dallas Mavericks are primed to steal an NBA Title…
