Do or Die Dallas Cowboys

Dalton Schultz, TE

Age: 23

Finally we have Dalton Schultz. The third year tight end from “Tight End U” could go anywhere from from TE2 to completely off the roster depending how training camp goes. At 6-foot-5, 245 lbs. Schultz has established himself as nothing more than a blocker thus far in his career. But his paltry receiving numbers are more a result of opportunity than ability

If Dalton Schultz can secure the TE2 spot, he’ll inevitably get more targets downfield. To do so he’s going to have to beat out veteran free agent addition, Blake Bell. Bell is a proven blocker in the NFL and is penciled in as the primary back-up to Blake Jarwin already.

A case can be made though that Schultz is just as good of a blocker as Bell, and has the added potential of being a better pass-catcher. How this shakes out will be fun to watch in training camp. The competition is wide open and the two players should push each other throughout.

Conclusion

Obviously anyone operating on the fringe of the roster needs to step up in training camp but these five players seem specifically noteworthy. Chido and Connor are fighting for starting gigs. Dalton is trying to elevate his standing and gain more opportunities.  Jon’Vea is trying to make the roster and make a case for more. And Dorance is in the thick of a battle that could make him a long-term option in Dallas in 2021.
