Do the Dallas Mavericks have what it takes to win a title under the new circumstances?

The NBA season is expected to resume on July 30th with 22 teams heading to Orlando, Florida to play eight regular-season games and the entire playoffs. With every team starting on relatively level ground, what could fuel a Cinderella run for the Dallas Mavericks?

Sports are coming back! Sort of… Sports leagues across the country are starting to return to action after suspending events due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The NBA was one that followed suit, albeit with an abbreviated plan. Nine teams from the East and 13 teams from West will head to Orlando to play eight regular-season games and then the entire NBA playoffs.

Because the league has taken significant time off, most players are as healthy as if they would be at the start of a new NBA season. The Mavericks expect everyone to return and play except for Forward Dwight Powell who is still dealing with an Achilles injury and point guard Jalen Brunson who underwent shoulder surgery effectively ending any chance of him returning to the team for the abbreviated season.

Even without the two important role players, the team will return All-Stars Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, starters Tim Hardaway Jr and Dorian Finney-Smith, and other valuable role players in Delon Wright, Seth Curry, Maxi Kleber, Willie Cauley-Stein, and everyone’s favorite big man Boban Marjanovic.

The team has quality talent at every level and they are capable of stretching the floor, finishing at the rim, and protecting the rim. That is what helped the team to many impressive wins early on in the season before injuries really started to wreak havoc for the team.

Now with a fresh start, the team will be interesting to watch as their only competition will be against the best the league has to offer; this also means the non-All Stars will have to stand out if the team is going to make a long playoff run.

Today, we will try to answer what it will take for the Mavericks to go on a long playoff run and who could be the unsung hero that leads the charge?
