Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster: WR and TE

Receiver (5)

Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, CeeDee Lamb, Devin Smith, Cedrick Wilson

The top-3 receivers here are a certainty. Cooper and Gallup are safely on this team for the next two seasons. After that the Dallas Cowboys must decide who they want to keep since Gallup will be a free agent and they’ll have an “out” in Cooper’s contract.  CeeDee Lamb is in Dallas for the next five seasons. Even as the third option here in Dallas, he’s expected to be a big part of this Dallas Cowboys offense. But behind the Big-3, things get a little dicey.

Devin Smith is the most accomplished receiver on the roster so right now he gets the nod at WR4. With top-notch deep speed and flare for the big play he will have opportunities to shine in a specialized role.

After him is Cedrick Wilson, an unproven third year guy who has the most well-rounded ability on the roster. Ced can play all three spots, work underneath or deep, and contribute on special teams. It would be nice to get Jon’Vea Johnson on the team but the Cowboys probably want more experience at WR4, Wilson is a team favorite at WR5, and I suspect the team wants to go a little thin at WR overall since they are top-heavy in talent and prefer to use DBs as special teams players rather than WRs.

Tight End (3)

Blake Jarwin, Dalton Schultz, Blake Bell

The only surprise here that I’m predicting is Dalton Schultz nailing down the TE2 spot over the veteran addition, Bell. Schultz is underrated blocker who can thrive in wide zone blocking situations. He’s also untapped as a pass-catcher and should finally get the looks he deserves in this his third season.

Something we’ll discuss on Wednesday’s upcoming article, expect more 21 personnel in 2020, Dallas is going to borrow a lot from the 49ers playbook this season and we can expect some wide zone from 21 personnel this year. Jarwin may be a fit here or Schultz can make that happen subbing in for Jarwin.

We can also go ahead and add the fullback Sewo to this roster list as well. The RB/FB, and H-back do-it-all back has experience in a variety of roles and could be a versatile weapon as a TE-RB combo.
