The Dallas Cowboys Will Have a Top 10 Defense

With an emphasis on the pass rush and scheme the Dallas Cowboys look to be a different defensive style team in 2020. The Cowboys decided to rebuild their defensive line in 2020. They went out and got better defensive tackles, depth at defensive end, and added youth across the front as well.

Adding in a healthy Leighton Vander Esch to a scheme built more around his and Jaylon Smith‘s talents, the ability to get to the quarterback and crash down on running backs should greatly improve both the pass and run defense. While there are still looming questions throughout the secondary, the front seven look to be the strength of this defense.

Even with what looks like a downgrade in talent at corner and safety, a better, more consistent, pass rush should help the back end if they can keep quarterbacks uncomfortable. The goal will be to force quarterbacks to hurry throws and with a new focus on facing the pass instead of the receiver should help get turnovers, or at the very least, create more pass breakups.

The questions at safety until they find out if Brandon Carr is the answer is certainly concerning. The lack of experience and depth at the outside corner opposite of Chidobe Awuzie is another huge question mark. However, the thought that the pass rush and front seven can help the back of the defense will work in 2020 and the defense will be in the top 10.
