How the Dallas Cowboys can keep momentum straight to the Bye week
By Walter Sharp
The Dallas Cowboys have the opportunity to ride the momentum train straight through the bye week.
The Dallas Cowboys are coming off one of the greatest comebacks in franchise history. They showed a lot of heart coming back down 20-0 at the end of the first quarter. Cowboys erased a 19 point lead after halftime.
The Cowboys have a lot of potential coming off this win. They have a good opportunity to ride their momentum from this win if the Cowboys win this Sunday against Seattle it will only raise their momentum. After Seattle, the Cowboys have a favorable schedule for the next seven games.
If the Cowboys can put together the second half of last weeks game this week, they can beat Seattle on Sunday. We all know the potential is there, with the Cowboys it’s just the question of when will everything come together?
With a win this week the Cowboys can potentially go into their bye week sitting at 8-1. They have a favorable schedule with only two questionable games against the Cardinals and Steelers after facing the Seahawks. This is the perfect time for the Cowboys to work out all the kinks in their new scheme on defense and work out the kinks on the offensive side of the ball.
After the bye week Dallas will face the toughest part of their schedule. If they are able to ride the momentum through these next seven weeks it can help them after their bye week. If the Cowboys go into the bye week at 8-1 they will be sitting with a comfortable lead in the NFC East and will have teams staying up late trying to figure out how to slow down their offense.
The only thing that could hold the Cowboys back is there defense. The Cowboys cannot go into these next seven games looking to win shootouts against their opponents. Dak may have won this last shootout, but he is not built for shootout games. High scoring games also takes away from the Cowboys running game.
Dallas needs to make these next seven games grinders. They need to run the football and make the other teams offense sit on the sidelines. The key to the Cowboys getting to 8-1 is keeping their defense off the field as much as possible. This means the offense has to have long drives that end with points. Dallas cannot rely on their defense to win games for them.
Dallas will need to play from ahead in these games and not fall behind on the scoreboard -especially this week. Russell Wilson is better than Matt Ryan, and if the Seahawks get out to a big lead, it could be a long game for the Cowboys. This is why it is important for the Dallas offense to keep him off the field and most importantly keep their defense off the field.
If they can control time of possession and score points early, they will be okay. This means Zeke and Pollard will have to run the football like their lives depend on it. Dallas needs their offense to have 10-15 play drives that chew up a lot of clock.
If the Cowboys can execute this plan against Seattle and walk out with a win, there is no doubt they can run the table. If Dallas can work out the kinks on offense they can definitely be 8-1 going into their toughest part of their schedule. This last comeback against the Falcons could have been just what the doctor ordered for Dallas and gives them a ton of momentum going into the next seven weeks.
It should be interesting to see how it all plays out, but in order to accomplish the 8-1 goal before the bye week the Cowboys must win Sunday.
