Dallas Mavericks Preparing to Create Big 3 With Giannis Antetokounmpo
Talk about the Dallas Mavericks pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo after next season means a new “Big 3” could be in the works in “Big D”.
This offseason could be an uneventful offseason for the Dallas Mavericks. That’s because they may be prepping for Giannis Antetokounmpo’s pending free agency in the 2021 offseason.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst has reported the Mavericks are going to avoid signing any major free agents to save money on next summer. The hopes are the team will be able to land Antetokounmpo to create their own “Big 3”.
"“The Dallas Mavericks are gonna be at the head of the line in pursuing Giannis,” Windhorst said on The Jump. “They want to have a third star.”"
Milwaukee hit a home run with Antetokounmpo drafting him in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft. The versatile 6’11” forward has dominated the league the last two seasons winning MVP awards last season and this season. Many have considered him to be the best player in the NBA right now and has carried the Bucks to success in the East.
What the “Big 3” in Big D Could Look Like
Dallas Maverick fans can’t help but think about what Dallas’ potential “Big 3” could look like with adding Antetokounmpo. His addition, along with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis , would make the Mavs a dominant force. The question will be if the three players could gel together as a unit.
Doncic’s style of play makes it easy for any player to develop chemistry with him. His ability to pass the ball, facilitate the offense, and shoot the ball from anywhere makes him an easy movable piece in Dallas’ lineup. If anything, Doncic could elevate Antetokounmpo’s place to another level. The two would complement each other well on the court.
As for Porzingis, having a forward duo like him and Antetokounmpo is simply one word: scary. Both players can shoot from any place on the court and have great rebounding skills. They can both play multiple positions on the court with their skill set. Similar to Doncic, Porzingis and Antetokounmpo would complement each other and build one of the scariest frontcourts in the league.
Should the Dallas Mavericks Sign Giannis?
From a talent standpoint, there are not many players like Giannis Antetokounmpo. The way he’s able to shoot the ball from any place on the court already separates himself from other forwards. His height obviously makes a dominant threat in the paint grabbing rebounds and defending inside. Dallas may have talent, but they don’t have the skill sets Antetokounmpo has right now.
One of the biggest weaknesses to the Dallas Mavericks the last few seasons has been a lack of a paint presence. Dwight Powell is considered one of their top paint players, but his Achilles injury that cost him the season hurt Dallas down the stretch. Antetokounmpo would provide Dallas the size they need in the paint.

Many teams are going to be going after Antetokounmpo and Dallas will be in line, but will those other teams have the cap space for him? The Mavericks will make sure they have the cap space to do so. They will take advantage of the situation since they don’t have to pay Luka Doncic just yet. Their cap space is there and Dallas will make sure they keep it that way.
Dallas has nothing to lose but to try to sign Giannis Antetokounmpo. This team is one star away from legitimately contending for an NBA title. Most of the pieces are in place for the Mavericks as they are still lacking with the play in the paint.
Antetokounmpo is exactly what fans of the Dallas Mavericks are waiting for to put it all together.
