Tradeable Dallas Cowboys Player No. 3

Michael Gallup WR

Age: 24

Contract: 2 years left at roughly $2M

Like I said in the intro, just because I’m pointing out tradeable assets does not mean I endorse them. The first two I trades I can get behind if the compensation is right. This one I’d have a tough time feeling good about, even if the Dallas Cowboys did get full value back.

Since entering the league in 2018, Michael Gallup has established himself as one of the top highlight catch receivers in the league. His knack for the big play has grown by the week and it’s only a matter of time before he’s paid accordingly.

Fun fact: Per PFF, Michael Gallup is in the top-5 in yards gained on 20+ yard receptions this season.

With Amari Cooper locked up long term, and CeeDee Lamb on his rookie deal for the next 4.5 years, Gallup looks like he could be the odd man out in Dallas (although I think the Cowboys could/should cut Amari and re-sign Gallup in 2022). Selling him now, while he’s under contract for the next season and half, would pull a good return. It’s not unreasonable to think the Cowboys could get a second rounder for him if they sell now.

2021 vs 2022

Obviously the compensatory pick needs to be considered in this whole thing, but if Dallas wants to reload this coming offseason rather than wait for the comp pick in 2022, they may want to trade players now.

Like I stated in the intro, guys like Zeke, Cooper, Jaylon, and Lawrence are untradeable given their contracts and the structure of money due them. Tradeable players are players who can put a contender over the top. Players that help other teams. Players that probably don’t factor into the Dallas Cowboys long-term plans.

Would you trade any of these guys and try to reload or do you want the Dallas Cowboys to stay the course and hope for a turnaround? Do you have other players in mind on the active roster who could offer a decent trade return? Discuss!
