The Dallas Cowboys select…

Pick  72

Richard LeCounte III, SAF

Georgia

Day 2 offers a variety of safety options for teams like the Dallas Cowboys who have to find an instant starter at some point. Xavier Woods is on his way out in Dallas and there’s no clear option available to replace him. The most viable safety on Dallas’ roster is Donovan Wilson, but he’s more suited to play in the box.

As such, Dallas is in need of a player who thrives in coverage. Someone who can play 2-deep and single high. Richard LeCounte could be that guy.

The 5-foot-11 190lb prospect players bigger than his stature indicates. In addition to playing a lot of center field single high, he can play man and zone and even be used close to the line to handle slot duties.

He has clear intangibles to his game which are hard to qualify but easy to see. LeCoute could be a Day 1 starter at FS for Dallas with Donovan Wilson manning the traditional SS spot. The Dallas Cowboys are in the middle of making over their secondary with Diggs and Farley starting outside, and with Wilson and LeCounte on the backend, they’d be positioned well for the future.

They just need to be willing to handle the risk and unavoidable growing pains. Luckily for them, they’ll be posting 40-burgers again (provided they re-sign Dak).
