The Dallas Cowboys have officially started their offseason and decisions are already starting to loom large.

One day into the offseason and the talk around the Dallas Cowboys is already pointing toward contracts; who will be here, who will not be here, and everything in between. As soon as the clock struck midnight signaling Monday had arrived, all attention turned toward the NFL for “Black Monday”, the day coaches tend to get released. However, in Dallas the attention went straight to Dak Prescott and when the Cowboys would re-sign him.

But Dak is not the only decision to loom large. One of the biggest decisions will be what will happen with many of the defensive players on this team. While Stephen Jones appeared on 105.3 this morning and gave his support for Jaylon Smith, there are rumblings that he could be a post-June-1st cut. There is a lot of time between now and then, but the discussion will likely continue until a final decision is made.

Other players that have decisions are corners Jourdan Lewis, Anthony Brown, and Chidobe Awuzie, defensive end Aldon Smith and safety Xavier Woods. These are not the only decisions, but some of the more major ones to be made. There is also whether Sean Lee and Tyrone Crawford will retire and what to do if they do. All of this is happening with the backdrop of a decision on defensive coordinator Mike Nolan.

On offense, there is a little more stability outside of the Dak contract, with the biggest questions surrounding Tyron Smith and La’el Collins. Smith will be on the wrong side of thirty, coming off of surgery to his neck. Collins reportedly has weight and hip issues that we are somewhat in the dark about. With Cam Erving also a free agent, offensive tackle could be a huge question heading into the offseason and NFL Draft.

As we get further into the draft and see what the Cowboys end up doing in free agency it could give clues as to who they may select and what positions they need to fill. Decisions are already looming large. It starts with Dak Prescott and goes on from there.
