Dallas Cowboys vets who must go

Xavier Woods, SAF

Xavier Woods was an instant favorite in Cowboys Nation. Picked in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Woods was the sleeper pick everyone hoped he’d become. Thrust into action as a rookie, Woods showed the ability to play man cornerback, in the box safety, and even deep zone safety.

As time went on, Woods zeroed in on the traditional free safety role, displaying improvement each year. But this year things went wrong on multiple levels. Woods struggled in Nolan’s new schemes. He looked unmotivated and often times disinterested. None of the qualities you want in your last line of defense.

Woods is a free agent this offseason and a mutual split seems likely. He needs a change of scenery and Dallas needs someone they can rely on.

Tyrone Crawford, DL

It seems the clock has finally struck midnight on Tyrone Crawford. The man many fans have been trying to cut for roughly four years has reached the end of his deal. And given the issues in stopping the run, the Dallas Cowboys need to focus on upgrading rather than retaining.

While oft maligned, Craw was an important part of the Dallas Cowboys defense these past few seasons. His position flex has bailed the Cowboys out of many terrible situations. He’s been a team leader and strong locker room force in Dallas. While some fans will celebrate his departure, the Dallas Cowboys organization will no doubt move on with a heavy heart.
